ABOUT MAS LAB

Multimodal Acoustic Systems Laboratory

Engineering acoustic systems to measure, interpret, and influence biology.

We connect radiation, light, and ultrasound through a shared engineering framework—from energy delivery and wave generation to signal acquisition, image reconstruction, and quantitative validation.

MAS Lab

WHAT WE WORK ON

Four connected research directions

Systems engineering is the common thread: we design physics, hardware, acquisition, and analysis together.

01 / RADIATION ACOUSTICS

Radiation-induced acoustic imaging

  • Image ionizing-radiation energy deposition through acoustic sensing.
  • Develop quantitative dosimetry and radiation-acoustic systems.
02 / IMAGING

Photoacoustic & ultrasound imaging

  • Build multimodal systems for structural, functional, and molecular imaging.
  • Improve acquisition, reconstruction, and image quality.
03 / QUANTIFICATION

Disease monitoring & biomarkers

  • Track vascular, physiological, molecular, and fluid-dynamic changes.
  • Measure disease progression and treatment response over time.
04 / STIMULATION

Ultrasound stimulation & therapy

  • Engineer ultrasound exposure for neuromodulation, therapy, and rehabilitation.
  • Quantify biological responses to stimulation.

HOW WE WORK

From engineering design to biomedical evidence

  1. Frame the measurement. Define the biological question and the signal needed to answer it.
  2. Build the system. Co-design imaging or stimulation physics, hardware, and data acquisition.
  3. Make it quantitative. Develop signal processing, reconstruction, and AI-assisted analysis.
  4. Validate the result. Test accuracy, repeatability, and usefulness in biomedical studies.

Computational imaging and AI support denoising, reconstruction, segmentation, inverse problems, uncertainty estimation, and quantitative analysis across these directions.
